Old man Jankan is an old prospector living a little bit to the east of Rymek. He helps the player during the quest Canyon Condor but requires the player to do something for him first.
If you try to enter the cave behind him before the quest updated to that point he says "Woa there kiddo, there ain' no gold for you in this here cave, this is my humble occupation."
