Species Villager
Location Empty Space

The Old Mage is an ancient Villager mage and the sole inhabitant of the so-called Empty Space, a "pocket dimension" between realms. This space can only be accessed using Gawrick's Crazy Teleports service in Cinfras, after completing the level 79 Quest Fallen Delivery.

The Old Mage was apparently accidentally trapped in the empty space around 100 AP, as a result of trying to perform an unknown spell. It is implied that this may have been the same kind of spell that Gawrick is attempting to develop today, alluded to in his Theory of Magical Cost.

Dialogue

On your first conversation:

  • Old Mage: Is this... am I dreaming..?
  • Old Mage: A real... person. Why are you here?
  • Old Mage: What year is it? What are you? Did you also...?
  • Old Mage: So many questions, so little... time.
  • Old Mage: You need to get out of here as soon as possible.
  • Old Mage: Where we are? I am not quite sure, but I call this an empty space. A space inbetween realms and reality, a place us living things should NOT visit.
  • Old Mage: Did you also... perform forbidden magic?
  • Old Mage: Good... Then there is still hope for you. Myself, I tried to break the fundamental rules of magic... Magic without cost.
  • Old Mage: You know. Rules exist for a reason... This is not a place I would wish on my worst enemies. Well I doubt they still exist...

On subsequent conversations:

  • Old Mage: You should visit me again sometime, being in between space and time gets lonely.
  • Old Mage: On second thought, maybe not.
  • Old Mage: I never got to say good bye to my family. The last thing my wife got to hear from me was...
  • Old Mage: I was going to make it, I was going to make our life better. The spell would change the world.
  • Old Mage: Idiotic... Imagine caring so much about success and money. You never know what you have before it's lost.
  • Old Mage: I hope no one found my old research and attempted the same spell I did.
  • Old Mage: Sometimes I hear someone...
  • Old Mage: A faint whisper out in the darkness, telling me to come closer. I think this is it for me.
  • Old Mage: I look the same I did all those years ago.
  • Old Mage: Time really is beyond our comprehension.
  • Old Mage: Don't put your nose where it doesn't belong.
  • Old Mage: Or you may lose it all.
  • Old Mage: You wonder how long I have been here? What year is it?
  • Old Mage: I see... It's been a while... I think I disappeared year 100.
  • Old Mage: It doesn't sound like much. However, time moves differently here. Or... time doesn't move? I cannot put in words how long it has been for me.
  • Old Mage: There is nothing worse than not being affected by time.
  • Old Mage: I hope no one found my old research and attempted the same spell I did.
