Overview

Lootrunning is opening Loot Chests generally along a pre-defined path in order to get items or emeralds. Loot Chests are distinguished from decorative chests by their particles. Tier 1-2 Loot Chests are often in easily visible places and are outlined by orange critical particles. Tier 3-4 Chests are found deep inside caves or in extremely obscure places, discernable from their white particles. Tier 3-4s are usually on decorative blocks that differ from their surroundings, such as a raised wood platform in a stone cave, or a heap of gold blocks.

Loot

A chest's loot is decided by how long the chest has been unopened. A recently opened chest is likely to only have a few emeralds in them, whereas chests that have been untouched for a few hours will have far more loot, giving a higher chance at a mythic being present. The level of the chest's loot is decided first by the level of the territory the player is standing in when opening it, then if not in a territory by the level of nearby mob spawns, then average level of nearby mobs, and finally if no mobs spawn or exist nearby by the player's combat level. Items found in chests will be 4 levels above or below the chest's level, for example chests in rodoroc territories will have level 90 chests so level 86-94 items.

Loot can additionally be affected by Loot Bonus - increasing the quantity of loot in a chest - or Loot Quality - increasing the quality of loot in a chest (increasing the chance of finding higher tier items, e.g. Mythics). Loot Quality can only be obtained from high level crafted leggings, boots and accessories with leggings and boots being level 100+ and accessories 95+, though it is advisable to reach level 100 before getting Loot Quality. Loot Quality and Bonus decreases in effectiveness the more you have, with LQ soft capping at 40, and LB soft capping at 80. Most builds have 40 LQ and as much Loot Bonus as you can get (while still having good movement capabilities and adequate damage), as LB is easier to acquire, and the cap is softer.

Tier 1-2 chests are generally better the older they are, although 2-3 hours is the recommended age to aim for. Tier 3-4 chests have optimal loot at 2-3 hours of being unopened. After that, higher age/loot bonus causes emeralds and powders to begin to overflow and replace items (though this mechanic seems less consistent than previously). You can get the following loot from loot chests:

Ingredients

Ingredients ranging from 0-3 stars.

Potions

Potions such as Healing and Mana, as well as Stat potions in tier 3 and 4 chests. Potions of Healing will be the level of the chest rounded down to a multiple of 5, so a level 93 chest will have level 90 health potions, while a level 95 chest will have level 95 health potions.

Powders

Powders ranging from Tier 1-4.

Items

Items ranging from Normal to Mythic. Mythic items take on average around 2000-2500 chests to find with a lootrunning set However, chances are affected by loot quality and loot bonus, as well as how good the worlds looted are. It can be difficult to find worlds with chests that haven't been looted recently, as many people partake in lootrunning.

Build and tips

Skill points are usually placed to get 105 Intelligence, then Agility and any requirements your weapon has, though this may well be different depending on build and you may want to opt for Strength and Dexterity (applied evenly) to increase damage if you are confident in your ability to survive.

The fastest class for lootrunning is Mage, followed closely by Archer and Warrior, with Assassin being viable and Shaman generally not recommended due to its significantly lower lootrun speed, though it can be used.

For each class you may want to carry a loot bonus weapon - either crafted or non-crafted - and for some builds with low damage movement weapons such as Warp, KoH, and Bonder or with possible weaknesses against certain bosses like Gale's Force a secondary weapon to deal damage - generally of the Water or Air Elements to match assigned skill points.

Mage :

Warp lootrunning consists of simply aiming where you want to go and spamming right click to cast successive teleport spells, while non-warp uses spell cycles, ideally using ice snake, for example 3-4 teleports then an ice snake. Teleport only works up to a certain angle so travelling directly upwards is not possible and vertical movement will need to be done with multiple diagonally upwards teleports. In certain places such as stairwells and tight caves running may be superior to teleporting.

Warp builds work by cancelling the negative mana regen of the item to allow near-infinite flight, and ideally partially or fully cancelling the negative health regen using Contrast and Everlasting Tomes, and possibly a crafted health regen accessory.

Non-warp builds generally work by building for high mana regen and cycling a few teleports and a reset spell, with the most efficient reset spell being ice snake due to it being 1 cost at 129 int which can be lowered by one with Renda Langit.

Archer:

Archer lootrunning consists of a fairly even mix of running and using the escape spell. Archer has the highest skill ceiling of the classes for lootrunning, so while a beginner may mostly move around by running and simple escape spells to move up, an expert archer lootrunner who has learned tricks along their lootrun paths may travel differently and even use double escapes in places (done by casting two escape spells in rapid succession).

For archer builds, it's recommended to use an item such as Seven-League Boots or Double Vision with the Lightweight Major ID to cancel fall damage, as this makes the experience far easier, less risky and comfortable. Due to the fairly even mix of running and spell use, the build is generally built taking both into account with around half the items being dedicated to each. High walkspeed, intelligence and around 5 mana regen is recommended.

Warrior:

Warrior lootrunning consists mostly of cycling charges and war scream; 3-4 charges then war scream for Tidebinder and up to 14-15 charges then war scream for Idol. Jump height allows far better movement as you start charging higher up and can clear obstacles and climb easier, and vertical movement mostly consists of a mix of repeatedly casting charge while facing downwards and strategically utilising ledges and jump height.

Idol builds go for high mana regen and ideally low war scream cost, as well as at least 4 jump height. This can be achieved through items such as Anamnesis, Ringlets, Renda Langit and Double Vision.

Non-Idol builds go for high mana regen, low war scream cost and jump height as well, but in terms of lootrunning style ideally require more spamming as you have to use a reset spell more frequently. A good example of a non-mythic Warrior lootrun weapon is Tidebinder, providing high mana regen as well as viable damage when used with Anamnesis.

Assassin:

Assassin lootrunning consists of mostly running while vanished to get the speed boost and using vanish to scale up structures. It is one of the most easiest classes to get into lootrunning due to how much control you have with vanish. Although, this heavily relies on a mythic weapon called Weathered in order to be viable for lootrunning. Assassins can also boost themselves very far by "flying" with vanish, this can be done by vanishing and waiting 1 second before casting another vanish at an angle to get the boost mid air.

Weathered builds generally go for really high walk speed and as well as 4 jump height. Items like Double Vision work well in Weathered builds by providing Walk speed, Jump Height, Sprint, and Sprint Regen. Gale's Sight also provides -4 2nd spell cost, which can help with chaining vanish especially in some areas.

In terms of non-mythic builds, Slider can be used instead of Weathered due to the high amount of walk speed it gives, although you may find yourself losing mana due to not being able to utilize the Roving Assassin major ID.
