The books in the middle represent the five skills, and the green orb above can be hovered over with the mouse to see how many points are currently available to allocate.

Skill Points are a system in Wynncraft which represent the player's physical and mental skills. Allocating skill points into the five available skills grants the player various combat bonuses. To access your skill points, click your compass on your hotbar in-game (you can also access other various features through your compass).

Overview

Skill points are acquired by leveling up. Every level gained grants two skill points to be freely allocated, capped at 200 Skill Points once the player reaches level 101. Levels 102-106 do not grant skill points.

Every point gained can be invested in one of five different skills through the player's compass, each corresponding to an Element. The two skill points gained from levelling up can be applied on two separate skills to increase both by one, or a single skill to increase it by two. The green orb above the five books displays how many skill points are unallocated, and they can be distributed one point at a time by clicking the book corresponding to the desired skill.

  • Strength increases all damage you deal and the Earth damage you deal.
  • Dexterity increases your chance to do double damage on a hit (known as a critical hit) and increases the Thunder damage you deal.
  • Intelligence decreases the mana cost of your spells, increases your maximum mana, and increases the Water damage you deal.
  • Defence decreases the amount of damage you receive and increases the Fire damage you deal.
  • Agility increases your chance to dodge when you get hit, reducing damage taken by 90%, and increases the Air damage you deal.

Items can also change the amount of points in a skill via Identifications, and some items require a certain number of points in a skill to be used. However, Crafted items with skill point identifications do not contribute skill points to an item's skill point requirements, but do still contribute to a player's skill point totals and bonuses. Non-crafted items contribute to requirements and bonuses as expected.

Skill Point Values

The maximum amount of skill points that can be manually allocated to a stat is 100. However, Identifications on items can increase your skills above this limit, to the final maximum of 150 points. The more skill points you have in a stat, the less effective adding more skill points will be. Having a negative amount of points assigned to a skill has the same effect as having zero points assigned to that skill.

Strength and Dexterity use the same scale, ranging (with diminishing returns per point invested) from 0% effect at 0 points to 80.8% effect at 150 points. Intelligence's Water damage bonus and maximum mana bonus work on this same scale, but spell cost reduction is calculated as (.5/(skillPoints/150)). For example, 150 Intelligence would grant a mana increase of 80.8%, a water damage bonus of 80.8%, but a spell cost reduction of 50%. Defence and Agility multiply the scale of Strength/Dexterity by final values of .867 and .951 respectively to get their final effect percentage.

Additionally, the percentage effect of each skill point type is rounded in-game to the nearest tenth from a more precise value actually used for damage calculation and effect. A list of unrounded values is available here, but for most purposes the table below is sufficient and mirrors the display in-game.

Strength

Strength is the skill point associated with Earth, increasing spell and melee damage as well as Earth damage dealt after all other modifiers. These damage bonuses stack multiplicatively; an Earth melee attack with base 100 damage with 100 (65.0% bonus) Strength would deal 100 * 1.65 * 1.65 = ~272 damage, rounded for clarity. A Fire melee attack with the same damage and Strength would deal 100 * 1.65 = 165 damage, only receiving the increased spell/melee damage portion of Strength. This Earth damage bonus scales 1:1 with the percentage effect displayed in the table above.

Strength does not affect Poison damage; this functionality was removed in Update 2.0. Despite this, several Poison-related items still affect Strength or have Strength requirements.

Dexterity

Dexterity is the skill associated with Thunder, increasing the crit chance of spell and melee attacks, as well as Thunder damage dealt after all other modifiers. For most circumstances, critical hits deal double damage (See below for more details). The Thunder damage bonus and critical damage bonus stack multiplicatively; a Thunder melee attack with base 100 damage with 100 (65.0%) Dexterity would deal 100 * 2 * 1.65 = 330 damage on a critical hit. A Fire melee attack with the same damage and Dexterity would deal 100 * 2 = 200 damage on a critical hit, only receiving the critical chance increase of Dexterity. This Thunder damage bonus scales 1:1 with the percentage effect displayed in the table above.

Dexterity does not affect Poison damage, as Poison damage cannot critically hit.

Dexterity stacks additively with Strength; When a hit boosted by Strength becomes a critical hit, only a +100% damage boost is added instead of doubling the Strength bonus damage as well. For example, this means at 150 skill points in Strength, a Strength-boosted critical hit will only deal ~2.8x more damage than usual, as an 80.8% boost is gained from Strength plus another 100% from Dexterity.

Intelligence

Intelligence is the skill associated with Water, reducing the cost of spells and increasing the player's maximum Mana, as well as increasing Water damage dealt after all other modifiers. This Water damage bonus scales 1:1 with Mana increase, not Spell cost reduction.

The Mana increase/Water damage bonus from Intelligence scales off of the same scale as Strength and Dexterity, maxing out at 150 with an 80.8% increase to Mana. However, the Spell cost reduction is calculated as (.5/(Intelligence/150)).

Defence

Defence is the skill associated with Fire, reducing the amount of damage taken per hit as well as increasing Fire damage dealt after all other modifiers. This Fire damage bonus scales 1:1 with the damage reduction effect associated with Defence.

Note that since Defence maxes out its effect at 150 with a 70.0% effect rather than Strength/Dexterity/Intelligence's 80.8% effect, investing the same amount of Skill Points into Defence provides a lower elemental damage bonus compared to all other skills.

Agility

Agility is the skill associated with Air, increasing the chance of the player to dodge incoming damage, reducing it by 90%. Agility also increases Air damage dealt after all other modifiers, and this Air damage bonus scales 1:1 with the dodge chance associated with Agility.

Note that since Agility maxes out its effect at 150 with a 76.8% effect rather than Strength/Dexterity/Intelligence's 80.8% effect, investing the same amount of Skill Points into Agility provides a lower elemental damage bonus compared to all other skills besides Defence.

The reduction in damage from dodging does not stack with Defence; a hit that deals 100 base damage deals 10 damage when dodged, regardless of Defence. For non-dodged hits, however, damage reduction from Defence applies normally.

Notes

  • Skill points can be reset in any town for free; shift-click the green orb above the skill point books.
  • The equation for a skill point's effects is reasonably (but not perfectly) described by the formula -0.0000000166*x^4+0.0000122614*x^3-0.0044972984*x^2+0.9931907398*x+0.0093811967.
  • "Defence" is the spelling used in-game; "Defense" is another common spelling, especially in the United States.
