Underice was a quest found in the Nesaak Tundra prior to the 1.14.1 Gameplay Update which reworked this quest into its current version.
Preview
All the fish found in the frozen pond near Nesaak have disappeared, and Fredris asks the player to investigate this.
Stage 1
- Fredris: A real disaster! I can't believe this is happening to me!
- Fredris: I've been fishing for the last few days and I caught nothing! Zilch! This isn't normal!
- Fredris: I spent my entire life fishing in this area! I wish I could dive under this ice to fix the problem myself...
- Fredris: Do you think you could help me? You might actually be exactly what I need!
- Fredris: Enter my shack, there you will find the entrance... Good luck!
Stage 2
» Explore under the ice to find the cause to the fish problem.
A Breathing Helmet is required for this stage. It can be obtained from completing the level 8 quest Underwater. Eventually, a Squid Village will be reached.
Stage 3
» Talk to Squidward in the Squid Village.
- Squidward: Have I seen any fish? No, of course not! I don't even know what a fish looks like!
- Squidward: Who could be stealing all those fish? I wonder! Actually...
- Squidward: I'm sure Calamaro did it! He's just that kind of guy. He lives in that house down there.
Stage 4
» Find Calamaro in the Squid Village.
- Calamaro: Me? Stealing fish? You are out of your mind! It's obviously Kroken who is stealing them!
- Calamaro: He lives right on top of that waterfall right there, if you want to go talk to him.
Stage 5
» Find Kroken in the Squid Village.
- Kroken: Do I look like someone who steals fish?
- Kroken: It's obvious that Squidward did it, he has tons of crates full of fishes!
Stage 6
» Talk back to Squidward.
- Squidward: Okay, okay, fine! It was me all along... I know, what a shock, right?
- Squidward: Okay, I got a proposition for you. Bring me [12 Raw Fish] and I will stop, deal?
- Squidward: Deal.
Stage 7
» Bring back [12 Raw Fish] to Squidward.
Raw Fish can be obtained from the Fish Merchant in Nesaak.
- Squidward: Good, you got the fish!
- Squidward: You can trust me, I won't touch the fish in the frozen lake anymore!
Stage 8
» Talk to Fredris to collect your reward.
- Fredris: Your story really doesn't make sense. Villagers living in a squid village under the lake? Pff!
- Fredris: However, if you can guarantee me that my problem is gone, I'll trust you.
- Fredris: Thank you for your help. Here, take these...
Trivia
- Each of the NPCs found in the Squid Village have names based on squid puns:
- Squidward is likely an obvious reference to the character Squidward from the kids' animated show SpongeBob SquarePants.
- Calamaro is derived from the word calamari, a dish that is primarily made of fried squid.
- Calamaro is also the only NPC that still made it through to the current version of this quest.
- Kroken is derived from the name kraken, a legendary squid-like monster.
