The Deceptive Rat is an unusually large rat NPC that appeared in Spooky Detlas during the annual Festival of the Spirits, which most recently ran from 13th October through 5th November, 2023. It could be found imprisoned in the hidden tunnels below the city, which could be accessed during the festival from an alley next to the Detlas airbase or from a nearby house in the city's southwestern quarter.

The creature is seemingly related in some way to a malignant spirit called The Vermin that could be encountered in the Banish the Beyond minigame hosted by The Envoy; however, the spirit version is accompanied by several smaller rats carrying weapons.

The Deceptive Rat can be given some Cheese, found near the southwest entrance to its tunnels, to begin the Spooky Detlas Mystery.

    • The creature accepts the cheese and consumes it in a single bite.
    • The creature nudges a dusty note out of its enclosure. What could this possibly be?

After Receiving the Dusty Note

    • You take one more glance at the mysterious creature before departing.
  • [2] Give Unappetizing Cheese.
    • The creature looks at the cheese, seeming not very interested in it. However, it still accepts it.

    • The creature stares at the cheese, noticing its bizarre smell. It relunctantly begins to chew on it.

    • The creature notices the cheese's crumbly nature, but doesn't appear to care.

    • The creature clearly takes note of the cheese's state, and looks disgusted after consuming it.

    • The creature's expression becomes almost shocked upon eating the cheese, almost looking like it's been haunted by something.

These dialogues are played with the cheese-giving dialogue depending on how many cheeses you have given the Deceptive Rat.

• It seems like that was not enough to satisfy the creature. It stares at you, giving the appearance of wanting four more pieces.

The final dialogue will give 3 Spiritual Shards. The Deceptive Rat will then burrow away, leaving behind a prize.

• The Deceptive Rat resembles the Giant Rats encountered under Ragni and during the Misadventure on the Sea Quest.
  • It notably wears a distinguishing Thankful Capotain, a custom gear skin.
• There are signs scattered around the tunnels in which the rat is imprisoned reading "IT HAS BEEN CONTAINED" in Ancient Wynnic.
