Dr. Legendary runs his own challenge called the Legendary Challenge on Legendary Island, and also serves as the final boss of the Legendary Challenge. While he did intend the final challenger to be a replica of Qira, she instead told him that any attempt to recreate any of her power, she would give him a fate worse than death. As such, he uses his most powerful mech, which is Power Armor that dramatically increases his physical capabilities.

Unlike every other boss on Legendary Island, Dr. Legendary is not based on any boss you have fought before. Remote Detonation Devices spawn throughout the arena, which are invulnerable and self-destruct themselves, which can make them hazardous if you get too close to one as its about to explode.

First Phase

Dr. Legendary's first phase has 400,000 HP, as well as the Flamethrower, which spews fire from the boss, Teleport, which makes the boss appear at a point in the arena, Charge, when the boss lunges towards you, and Push spells, which pushes you away from the boss within a 12-block radius. He also has a Ranged AI, which can make the boss more threatening if you have a playstyle that has a short range, such as a Shadestepper archetype. He also has an elemental weakness in Thunder, as well as having elemental damages in Fire and Thunder, and has elemental defenses in Fire, Water, and Earth.

Second Phase

Dr. Legendary's second phase has 400,000 HP like his previous phase, as well as the same spells from before, except this time he replaces Flamethrower with Multihit, which makes an area in front of the boss rapidly hit the player, and unlike any of his phases, also has a Melee AI instead of a Ranged AI. His elemental properties are also noticeably different than his last phase, in which he has a weakness in Air, as well as damages in Water and Thunder, and also has defenses in Water, Earth, and Thunder.

Third Phase

Dr. Legendary's third and final phase has 600,000 HP, and loses his Charge and Multihit spells from the second phase. He also goes back to a Ranged AI, as well as having very different elemental properties, being a weakness in Earth, damages in Fire, Air, and Thunder, and also has defenses in Fire and Thunder. When his HP has been whittled down to 0, he drops the LegendaryChallengeToken.png Legendary Challenge Token, ending the Legendary Challenge when you exit the arena.

First Conversation

  • Dr. Legendary: Aha, another win for me! Seems my luck just won't run out. Mo'in, fine soldier! Beautiful day, isn't it?
  • Dr. Legendary: Yes, this festival is quite the treat. I had to take some time off from working Legendary Island for this!
  • Dr. Legendary: As great as my Corkus-funded escapades to lands hither and sundry may be, kicking back and relaxing is nice.
  • Dr. Legendary: So for now, no need to extend the formalities. There is no Dr. Legendary here- just humble Herbert, having a hoot, eh? Charmed, I'm sure!

Following Conversations

  • Herbert: Why, hello again! You know, I have to wonder if this roulette wheel is weighted. I just can't seem to stop winning, though I can't complain about that!
  • Herbert: Say, I could use a break from the gaming. Feel like talking for a spell?
    • [1] You're a doctor? What's your doctorate?
      • Herbert: Ahh, yes, of course! I actually have a doctorate in chiropracty. It was when I was in my youth, still unsure of what I wanted to do with my life.
      • Herbert: Oh, while I do love my adventuring and mechanical work, I do look fondly back on those days. "Legendary Chiropracty, for legendary back pain!"
      • Herbert: It was how I met my lovely wife, Hilda von Legendary! Though at the time she was simply Hilda Palmer. Came in complaining of this wicked ache in her back...
      • Herbert: Why, she simply stole my heart right then and there. I managed to diagnose her problem as being actually rather serious, and put her towards a surgeon. We got to talking after that...
      • Herbert: And now we even have a wonderfully bright child! Hector is sure to live up to the family name.
    • [2] What was your favorite expedition?
      • Herbert: Well, it's a bit embarrassing to admit, but it was one of the few failures I had, actually. I was sent out into the rest of the ocean, chasing legends.
      • Herbert: Every single one of my mechs at Legendary Island is indeed based off of figures of repute, legend, and rumor, and the ocean abounds with rumors!
      • Herbert: However, all the oceanic rumors can be summed up in mere sentences, and none really ended up having the pizzazz needed for my mechs.
      • Herbert: Though I ended up at Zhight Island at one point, and I've got to say- if you ever need a vacation, Zhight is your man!
      • Herbert: The Treasure Tour was a delight, and the staff were incredibly accommodating, if a bit curmudgeonly at times. Still, Zhight knows how to run a business.
      • Herbert: And, well... Eheheh, most of the funding for that trip ended up going right to his pocket, but I have no regrets!
    • [3] The girl in the black robes over there is giving you the evil eye.
      • Herbert: ...still, after all this time? I suppose those Hive fellows can hold an impressive grudge.
      • Herbert: I tried to be friendly with her, really- I have! But they simply refuse to extend the same courtesy to me, and it's a two-way bridge.
      • Herbert: What happened was, I mailed Qira, asking to meet with her, and there was some fuss with the postage that she never received my letter.
      • Herbert: It ended up causing some... Erh. Some unneccessary h-hostilities. R-Really, it was nothing much, ahahah...
      • Herbert: Even the patented "von Legendary slick talk" hasn't gotten through to her, and if that doesn't say everything it needs to say, then the whole thing's hopeless.
    • [4] I saw you at Legendary Island earlier, didn't I?[1]
      • Herbert: Oho! Seems my substitute mech fooled you, it did! Yes, I figured the challengers wouldn't want to wait while I was away...
      • Herbert: So I came up with that little compromise. It was certainly worth the sleepless weekend, I must say! The imitation skin-myomers are incredibly realistic!
      • Herbert: Those were actually a development by good old Cerid, though- can't take the credit there, or else he'd take my head off. And my hand that I used the myomers for.
      • Herbert: He's making tracks on his research into prosthetics. In fact, I hear he and some of his engineers saved the life of an Avo who was, er...assaulted.
      • Herbert: It was heavy work from what I understand, and I've only heard rumors, but apparently it was roughly a 45% conversion of organic to mechanical parts.
      • Herbert: That is a marvel of advancement, I do declare! To think that I can use that sort of thing for such comparatively petty reasons. Just goes to show, I suppose!
    • [5] I got your medallion, make me more prizes.[2]
      • Herbert: My land, so you do! Seems I'll need to hurry up with my plan.
      • Herbert: While you've put it rather brusquely, I did indeed drum up plans for a new set of prizes for madfolk like you...
      • Herbert: Hahaha, I mean it in the best of ways, of course! I'm tickled you love my challenge so much!
      • Herbert: We're planning to make special decorative masks, since the medallion isn't terribly visible when you wear it, but it's taking more time than expected.
    • [6] I have places to be, actually.
      • Herbert: Oh, is that so? If that's the case, maybe I'll drop by the bar instead and quench my thirst.
      • Herbert: Ooh, actually I've heard about a ball-throwing game around here, maybe I could give that a shot! Anyways, safe travels!
