~ General Skien

General Skien is a disgraced general from the city of Troms. While he was historically known for being a great general, his downfall occurred when a traitor within his ranks attacked him, making him unable to defend the city and leading to his exile onto his island. On his eponymous island, he would become abusive and insane before he would die. The presence of the Traitor's Ghost spread the Corruption to the island, which in turn would reanimate his dead body.

Combat

General Skien has a Berserk AI, which will cause him to follow anything in the area and dealing contact damage, including his own minions. He is resistant to forms of Blindness Crowd Control and is immune for forms of Slowness Crowd Control. He is weak to Water, Thunder, and Air while being resistant to Earth and Fire.

He has four abilities: Arrow Storm, Charge, Heavy Charge, and Multihit. Arrow Storm will cause him to fire several projectiles at a rapid rate in an inaccurate spread. Charge will cause him to lunge from one area to another, while its heavy version will cause an explosion at the area he lunges to. Multihit will cause him to sweep an area in front of him, dealing several weak hits in quick succession to each other.

During the fight, he is accompanied by several of his commanders as well as the Traitor's Ghost, the latter of which will constantly respawn throughout the fight.

Lore

General Skien was a human general who once led Troms' army, defending the city from corrupted attacks. His army was known for its strength[1], and he himself was known to be very strong as well as highly intelligent. During a corrupted siege, he was attacked by a highly trusted soldier of his, Sotqin,[2], who was recently corrupted. This siege would become one of his blemishes and permanently shatter his trust in others, but the main reason why he became infamous because of the dark shaman Slykaar, who would perform dark rituals and sacrifices in order to defend the city. Because of Slykaar's actions, Skien would forever associate magic with evil, which became even worse when the Villagers found Wynn and started to gain positions in the Tromsian government. Eventually, this caused him and his army at his command to abandon Troms.[3] Due to the fact that Skien had an intense hatred of Villagers, talking about him became taboo throughout Troms, to the point where most don't know all that much about the general.[4]

The island he arrived at became known after him, and Skien's Island was not known for its hospitality. In the years Skien spent there, he slowly lost whatever sanity he had left and came to believe that he was still in the battle that had ruined him in Troms and that everyone was a traitor out to destroy his island. During this time, he built a stronghold atop the highest peak in the area with questionable architectural patterns, such as secret rooms and connected towers with no way to cross between rooms. He also built underground passageways and a jail, though it is doubtful that it had any use on actual criminals. He treated his soldiers horribly, taking their hard-earned armor, preventing them from leaving the island for any reason, and throwing them in jail or torturing them for no logical reason. He hated villagers, believing their magic and greed to be just as dangerous as the corruption. This hate was likely due to his extreme paranoia, and after he failed to defend Troms, the mysterious magic of villagers looking to profit off of Wynn's problems would have certainly seemed sketchy.

Eventually, after a long time of dealing with his abuses, Skien's soldiers tried to escape, getting boats and trying to kill their insane general. However, Skien was an extremely powerful fighter who had strength equal to the greatest heroes of Wynn, so the underequipped soldiers stood no chance against him and were all killed. Although Skien at first saw the killing of his soldiers as a victory in defending the island, the general slowly realized the truth: he had failed to defend his people, and the fact that he himself was the one who had killed them broke him completely. In addition, the spirit of Sotqin that had years ago betrayed him had been following him, and with it came the corruption to raise the masses of soldiers the general had killed.

What had once been his stronghold was now his prison and he was unable to escape. He made a few vain attempts at calling passing ships for help, but it was no use; he eventually ran out of food and starved to death. This was not the end for the general, as he too was raised by the corruption. In the first moments of his revival, his mind was still 'intact', which led him to vow to continue fighting the corruption on the island. A well-cared badge of his would concentrate his vow, and after his physical body had been killed by the player, the spiritual energy within it manifests as his Revenant. Killing the Revenant truly puts an end to Skien, though his body may still be animated by the Corruption's presence on his island.[5]

Powers

Although Skien was human, he was impossibly strong and fast. In addition, as a general he was supposedly brilliant, so together he would have been one of the most powerful people in the province. He did not have access to magic, and even after the arrival of the villagers, he would not learn due to his general hatred of them and what they brought to Wynn.

Skien's will to continue existing is notably strong, as he was able to take some control of his corrupt state, and even after his body is killed, his spirit still lingers in the world and must be killed a second time. It is not known why Skien is so powerful, but it likely goes back to his qualities in life.

Trivia

  • The existence of Skien's Island prevented the colonization of Selchar for many years[6].
    • To this day, it is still unsafe for ships to travel near the island.
  • Skien's Island is the only place in the ocean where corruption exists in any major form.
  • It is not said when Skien fought in the siege of Troms, but it was probably the siege that Bob saw the end results of. It is possible that it was not[7], but it is uncertain.
  • Skien could have some relation to Tisaun and the Sodeta Guild, as he specifically calls them traitors[8].
  • Skien's case of retaining some measure of thought after becoming corrupted is very unusual, and it is unknown why he was able to do this.
  • At some point before the island fell, Bob's pet Mooington was brought there, but it is unknown why.
  • One of the paintings on the island that Skien tried to destroy was somehow related to Yahya and his brothers, though exactly how is unknown.
