The Roots of Corruption, also known as the Nether Basin, is a colossal cleft cut into the earth by miners to the south-west of Detlas and east of Elkurn that has since become engulfed by Corruption. The Corruption Portal from which the Corruption leaks out into Wynn stands at the bottom of the pit.

The Roots and the Portal are the historical source of the corruption in Wynn, and are by far the most corrupted area in the province. The roots have spread beneath the province from this source like a mycelial network, as seen in the Beneath the Roots secret discovery, which appears to be the cause of the corruption spikes emerging from the earth around Wynn, such as in the Corrupted Village. While the exact effects of proximity to the roots and the Portal are unknown, they are unquestionably hazardous and have led to the corruption of multiple powerful figures in the past.

Areas

• Corruption Portal - A large gate, and supposedly a Realm Portal. Many have entered the portal, and all of them came back as servants of the Corruption.
• Light Dust Cavern - A cavern where a rare material known as Lightdust is found. It is used in Temple of the Legends to purify the Helmet of Legends.
• Progenitors' Cavern - A cave where a creature of darkness resides.
• Jorkin's House - The house of a man named Jorkin, who investigates the Portal.

World Events

• Bowels of the Roots - Plunge yourself into the burning guts of the corruption, and its destructive forces will come to greet you.
• Prelude to Annihilation - Something from the other side roars through the portal with a hatred for all life. Annihilation is coming to the physical plane.

Caves

• Winery Infestation - An old wine cellar infested with the corrupt.
• Corruption Mines - A mine from old times completely consumed by the Roots of Corruption.

Trivia

• Originally, the location on the other side of the portal was known as "The Nether", parodying vanilla Minecraft's Nether dimension.
• The Lightdust Cavern is on the north side facing Gavel and the Realm Portal to Light, while the cave with the Mangled Progeny is on the south side facing the Silent Expanse and the Realm Portal to Darkness.
