Homes ravaged by Decay, the subterranean Grootslangs search frantically for a better habitat. Though they harbor no ill intent, they pose a significant risk for the people of Olux, and perhaps all of Gavel.

Nest of the Grootslangs, subtitled "A hunger to devour the land...", is the first and lowest-level Raid in Wynncraft, located in the Olux Swamp. It was added to the game in the 1.20 Gavel Reborn update, alongside the two other high-level Raids in Gavel Province, Orphion's Nexus of Light and The Canyon Colossus, and was revamped in 2.1 Rekindled World.

Like other Raids, Nest of the Grootslangs is a team-based challenge, requiring a party of 4 players to complete. It is an introductory Raid unlocked after completing Realm of Light I - The Worm Holes, the first part of the Realm of Light questline, and introduces various new mechanics, including a variety of challenges, powerups, and unique rewards such as Mastery Tomes, Charms and Amplifiers.

To take on the Nest of the Grootslangs, you must first assemble a party of 4 players. Each must have unlocked the Raid by completing the level 54 quest Realm of Light I - The Worm Holes. The Party Finder can be used to queue for the Raid, automatically grouping players together into parties of 4, provided each player has an Az Rune.

The entrance to the Raid is inside the ruined temple in the mountains on the northwestern edge of Olux Swamp. The nearest town is Olux, a short distance to the east, which you can use to restock on Runes before or in between runs, as well as Potions, crafted consumables or other supplies, which can prove invaluable.

Once your party is prepared, travel to the entrance, and each player will have to hand an
Az Runes to the Raid Keeper. Az Runes are obtained as a reward from The Worm Holes quest, found rarely throughout Olux Swamp and the Dark Forest, or as a reward from level 46-60 Caves or World Events. Once the Runes have been given, your party will enter the Nest of the Grootslangs and be faced with your first Challenge Room.

Progressing through the Nest of the Grootslangs involves defeating three randomly-selected Challenge Rooms in succession. Each of these rooms involve a variety of cooperative challenges, including puzzles, parkour, and combat, that your party must work together to complete. If you die during a challenge, you will be able to spectate the rest of your party while they continue. When a challenge is completed, all dead players are revived; if too many players die at once, however, and you are consequently unable to complete the challenge, you will fail the Raid and be brought back to the entrance.

After each Challenge Room, you will enter a rest area where you can regroup, access a Blacksmith and choose Power Ups before tackling the next challenge; see the Power Ups section for details. After each buff room and before the first room is an instruction room for each challenge.

Room 1

Nest of The Grootslangs
A hunger to devour the land...

Tower Room

» Hold and defend the tower for 60 seconds.

In this room, there will be a circle on the ground that becomes a tower. When a player stands on a circle, the tower will unearth itself. Several Grootslang Whelps will attack the tower, so it will be up to the players on the ground to kill them. Meanwhile, the player on the tower must hold their position from the aerial mobs which threaten them. Once the timer has counted down all the way, the room is successfully completed. If too many Grootslangs attack the tower, then it will collapse and a new one will spawn.

Slimey Platform

» Hold the platform for 60 seconds.

In this room, there will be an elevated green disc on the floor, and a player needs to stand on that. A timer will start counting down afterwards. The other players should then defend the player on the platform. After a while, a notification in the chat will appear that an egg is cracking. Kill the Toxic Slime mob to prevent it from hatching. If the slime hatches, then the platform cannot be held for a few seconds. Once the platform has been held for 60 seconds, the room is completed.

Room 2

» Collect 10 Slimey Goo to construct the tower.

In this room, the group of players must gather 10 Slimey Goo to build a tower to progress to the next room. Completing a challenge will grant you 1 Slimey Goo. After a while, a notification will appear in chat stating that every 20 seconds, a Slimey Goo will Decay from the tower, taking away 1 Slimey Goo from the team's progress. Each room can only have 1 player in it except the Parkour room.

Puzzle

In this puzzle, a player must use a cannon to shoot down platforms to get to the end using the pattern on the wall to the left. Once the end has been reached, they will get 2 Slimey Goo.

Parkour

This parkour is a lot like the one in the Undergrowth Ruins, with there being diagonal slime pads that can provide a good bounce. Movement spells are disabled in this room. There will be slime blocks on the walls which are used to direct you. After you've made it through the first segment, you will then land on Slime blocks and then on Lime Clay. The Parkour will then be normal parkour afterward. Complete the parkour to get 1 Slimey Goo.

Battle

In this room, the Encroaching Tunneler must be killed in order to get 1 Slimey Goo.

Once 10 Slimey Goo have been added to build the tower, you can progress to the third room.

Hammer Room

» Traverse through the tunnel, destroying rocks in between the path.

In this room, there will be a Heavy Hammer in front of a tunnel. The player who holds the hammer will be slower and receive other debuffs. The hammer wielder has the tasks of destroying rocks by clicking on the cracks with the hammer and deshelling grubs, which are powerful mobs that are normally very tanky unless they become unshelled. The other players must work on protecting the hammer wielder.

If the hammer wielder dies, it will respawn at the start of the room.

Minibosses Room

» Slay minibosses to raise up platforms.

In this room, there will be 4 minibosses that must be killed. There will be 2 sections of the room, the top and bottom. Two players must go to the bottom while the other two stay at the top. Players on the lower level have to avoid the Lost Nagas and Lizardmen on the ground, while players on the upper level must do parkour to progress. Players on the lower level must kill the miniboss before it rises up to the upper level for the other players to fight. Once all four minibosses have been killed on both levels, the room is completed. If both players for a layer die, then the raid is failed.

The Grootslang Wyrmling
The Restless Devourer

This section is transcluded from Grootslang Wyrmling § Combat. (edit)

The Grootslang Wyrmling's fight is started as it emerges from the center of the arena and roars in the sky before approaching the players on the ground.

The Grootslang Wyrmling is weak to
Fire, deals damage in and resists
Earth, and is also resistant to
Thunder and
Water. It and its segments are also immune to all forms of crowd control. The main attack of the wyrmling is a standard melee AI, dealing more damage if it chains successful attacks, but the key feature that distinguishes it from other melee AI mobs are its segments. Segments each have their own amount of HP and if left alive will buff the abilities of the wyrmling. Killing a segment will also damage the head of it. The wyrmling always has at least 3 segments for the entire duration of the fight, and can have no more than 21 segments. There are also several abilities it can use throughout its fight:

  • Maw Rush: The Grootslang Wyrmling will open its maw before rushing towards a spot in the arena, indicated by a line of fire particles.
  • Surfshock: The Grootslang Wyrmling will jump out of the ground and burrow directly into another spot. The spot where it emerged from will have a shockwave spread out from it. The spot where the wyrmling will emerge is telegraphed by a large green ring. The shockwaves can trigger dormant stalagmites (appearing as small green circles) that burst out of the ground when triggered.
  • Slime Puddles: A green glob will fall from the ceiling onto the ground, creating a toxic spot for a couple of seconds. Players that walk into the slime puddles will be poisoned.
  • Loop-de-Loop: The Grootslang Wyrmling will start to ascend before descending in a loop-de-loop-like fashion. It will then enter a "soft rage" state to move more quickly and have stronger attacks for a short period of time.
  • Tunnel: The Grootslang Wyrmling will burrow under the ground before reemerging sometime later. Unlike Burrowing Leaps, this attack does not produce a shockwave.
  • Death Spiral: The Grootslang Wyrmling will coil around in the sky until it reaches the ceiling, dropping dirt blocks and dormant stalagmites. It will then dive straight into the ground as a massive shockwave spreads out from the spot.
  • Cannibalize: The Grootslang Wyrmling will spiral up into the air as explosions appear around its mouth before it rushes towards a Grootslang Whelp. The whelp is consumed to heal some HP and regain 2 segments.
  • Devour Prey: The Grootslang Wyrmling will rush towards a player and deal an immense amount of damage to them.

Alongside the Grootslang Wyrmling itself, several other Grootslang Whelps appear in the arena alongside it. They act as smaller versions of the wyrmling but do not coil up into the air. However, Grootslang Whelps can be cannibalized by the Grootslang Wyrmling in order to regain segments. Some Carnivorous Plants can also appear in the arena sporadically, firing ranged projectiles at players.

Once the Grootslang Wyrmling is killed, it will burrow into the ground before spiraling up into the sky with its mouth wide open before freezing in place and exploding into several different segments.

Guild Raid Changes

During a Guild Raid, the following changes are made to the Grootslang Wyrmling's fight:

  • Maw Rush creates a shockwave upon hitting a player.

Raid Power Ups

After each of the three Challenge Rooms, you will be able to choose one of three randomly-selected powerups, increasing in tier from I to III with each successive challenge. Note that each set of powerups to choose from is independently randomized, so being offered a specific Tier II powerup in the second room will not necessarily mean that the corresponding Tier III will be available in the next room.

For further information on the Major IDs provided in some of these powerups, see the Identifications page. Inside the Raid, you can right-click each powerup to see a description of their effects.

Due to raid scaling, being at a lower level than 105 will make +x/3s Poison buffs be scaled, providing less poison for lower level players.

Trivia

  • The entrance to the raid had existed since Gavel release, but it had no use until Version 1.20. It was generally thought to be a Naga temple due to an Olux Citizen hinting towards it in their dialogue.
  • This is also the introductory raid, it's been confirmed that there'll be no more lower levelled raids in the future.
  • This Raid received several changes in 2.1 Rekindled World:
    • The Tower Room instead involved 3 platforms that had a chance to rise up, although only one of them would. Grootslang Whelps were also absent from this.
    • The Resource Room has 2 different versions that were merged together. The following cut rooms were:
      • Battle: A miniboss fight with the Poisonous Centipede.
      • Puzzle 1: A pattern on a wall had to be filled out by killing Venomous Millipedes.
      • Puzzle 2: A path would appear on the ceiling that players had to follow.
    • The Hammer Room had the object of focus be some slime that players had to carry. Anyone could break the rocks and there were no grubs.
    • The boss fight with the Grootslangs involved fighting 5 Grootslang Wyrmlings that would get stronger throughout the fight as the arena would shrink with each one. The movement of each wyrmling was also much more static instead of the modern Grootslang Wyrmling's slithering.
