~ Blade of Shade

The Blade of Shade is the Boss of the Challenge of the Blades Boss Altar.

Combat

The Blade of Shade has the same elemental properties for its whole fight, being weaknesses in Water and Earth, damages in Thunder, Air, and Fire, and has defenses in Thunder and Fire.

It deals very small amounts of damage in its first phase. However, the main gimmick of the fight starts to reveal itself after the first phase is defeated: the boss splits into two stronger bosses upon the defeat of each one. The bosses stop splitting at the fifth phase, or when there's 16 bosses at most in the arena, at which point they will have their rewards drop. Due to this, the boss itself, in order to be fully defeated, effectively has 2,446,500 HP, in stark contrast to other bosses fought at the same level range. However, their damage remains roughly the same per boss. The boss also loses its immunities to Blindness and Slowness Crowd Control, meaning that they will now be susceptible to such effects, though it will gain a temporary immunity to them a few seconds after it is applied.

The boss's first two phases has Melee AI, which causes it to follow the player directly. The third and fifth phases have Charge AI, causing the mob to run in a straight line in a location the player was at very recently. The fourth phase has Crawl AI, which is similar to Melee AI, except that the mob stops every 1-2 seconds before continuing to follow the player.

All phases have the same three abilities: Teleport, Multihit, and Vanish. Teleport will cause the mob to suddenly go from one spot in the arena to another within range. Multihit will have a cloud of particles appear in front of the mob, and any entities caught within will take small hits of damage in very quick succession. Vanish will cause the mob to disappear leaving a trail of smoke where it is going, with the effect wears off after a few seconds.

The lore of the Blade of Shade comes from the Wynncraft Content Team members Selvut283 and Deusphage.

The Blade of Shade is a Lurker, shadows which are coalesced around a particular item type that become inundated with magic to the point where the vessel itself isn't capable of holding such magic, expanding out and creating a member of this species. As a Lurker becomes stronger, the object inundated with the magic can be hidden. If the object is destabilized through damage, the object expels more energy to the point of creating a new Lurker. While the new Lurker becomes stronger compared to its destabilized form, it also risks exposing the object, which can destroy the Lurker, which is presumably the reason why most don't even if some can do it at will. The more power a Lurker has, the more a Lurker can split and absorb energy, thus increasing its chances of survival. Given enough time with split Lurkers, they will be compelled to rejoin themselves, which can make the shadows coagulate and crystallize.[1]

Lurkers instinctively know when their object is vulnerable, and as such will hunt other members of its own kind to absorb their powers. Most Lurkers will pick off weaker members of their kind as they don't want to risk competition from stronger ones nor chances that are about the same as a coin flip. The Blade of Shade is the strongest Lurker known.[1] However, due to its incredibly high strength compared to other Lurkers, it no longer finds solace in killing weaker Lurkers, and now seeks challengers of similar power to give itself purpose.[2] As such, the Boss Altar for this creature requires 5
Werewolf Tails in order to find those who can give it joy.
